ICAB monitors the audit quality of its practising members and their firms each year as part of its obligations under the International Federation of Accountants' Statement of Membership Obligations 1 (IFAC SMO 1). Monitoring visits are conducted on behalf of ICAB by ACCA, who have been appointed as independent practice reviewers. Each review assesses firms' compliance with International Standards on Auditing and the IESBA Code of Ethics. Results are reported annually and published in the interest of public transparency. Firms are visited on a three-year routine cycle (depending on the nature of their clients), or a six-year routine cycle, with earlier follow-up visits required where deficiencies are found.
