Did you know that ICAB works closely with the ACCA (The Association of Chartered Certified Accountants)? Students pursuing the ACCA qualification are encouraged to first register as Student Members of ICAB. This allows you to stay connected with the local accounting profession in Barbados while you complete your ACCA studies and examinations, helping you build both your international qualification and your professional network at the same time.
At ICAB, guidance is offered to help individuals navigate pathways that support growth, recognition, and opportunity locally and internationally.
To begin studying for the ACCA qualification, applicants generally must meet one of the following academic requirements:
6 CAPE units Grades (I-IV) and three GCSEs (or equivalent), including English and Mathematics OR
Equivalent qualifications from other national education systems may also be accepted.
Two A-Levels and three GCSEs (or equivalent), including English and Mathematics OR
An Associate degree, and three GCSEs (or equivalent), including English and Mathematics OR
A relevant university degree (exemptions may be applicable)
Students without the standard academic qualifications may begin with:
ACCA Foundations in Accountancy (FIA)
This program allows students to build the necessary academic foundation before progressing to the full ACCA qualification.

03Continue your professional journey by registering with ACCA as part of your qualification pathway.

04Progress through your examinations while maintaining active student membership with ICAB.
ICAB student membership is currently open to individuals pursuing professional accounting programmes.

Students pursuing ACCA under the Joint Examination Scheme (JES) are required to register with ICAB, the local Professional Accountancy Organisation (PAO), in order to satisfy the examination criteria.
As an IFAC member organization, ICAB is required under IFAC Statement of Membership Obligation 2 (SMO 2) to adopt, or support the adoption and implementation of, the International Education Standards (IESs) for professional accountants and students. To support this obligation, ICAB partners with ACCA under the Joint Examination Scheme (JES) to provide a globally recognized professional qualification pathway for students in Barbados.
No. ACCA examinations, registration, exemptions, exam entry, reinstatement, subscriptions, and related student matters are administered directly by ACCA.
